AMEND RESOLUTION NO . 40 -98 — OPEN BURNING PERMIT FEE
WHEREAS , RCW 36 . 32 . 120 , states " . . the board of county
commissioners . . . have the care of the county property and the management of
the county funds and business . . . "
WHEREAS , RCW 36 . 43 . 010 states "The boards of county commissioners
may adopt standard building codes and standard fire regulations to be applied
with their respective jurisdictions ; "
WHEREAS , the Board of Mason County Commissioners did establish an
open burning permit program in Mason County on April 28 , 1998 ;
WHEREAS , the Department of Natural Resources will no longer issue
land clearing permits and in order for Mason County to assume this function , the
current Mason County fee will need to be increased ,
WHEREAS , a public hearing was held on Tuesday , October 2 , 2001 at
9 : 45 a . m . to take public testimony regarding an increase in the fee ;
NOW , THEREFORE THE BOARD OF MASON COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS DO HEREBY RESOLVE to amend the annual fee to $ 100
for each land clearing permit issued under the Open Burning Permit Program
(see Attachment A which is incorporated as part of this resolution ) . This revised
fee shall be effective November 1 , 2001 .

SUMMARYOF OPEN BURNING PERMIT PA
1 . A written permit will be issued for all land - clearing fires . A land = clearing
fire is any fire over four ( 4 ) feet in diameter . Currently , open fires no
larger than four ( 4 ) feet in diameter can be burned without a written
permit .
. Land - clearing open burning permits will be issued only for the burning o
natural vegetation .
3 . The fee for a land - clearing open burning permit will be $ 100 .
4 . A land - clearing open burning permit will be . valid for thirty ( 30 ) days from
the date of issue .
5 . A Mason County Fire Warden will issue a land - clearing open burning
permit after a site visit .
