A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE GROWTH MANAGEMENT ACT
WHEREAS , Mason County has been under an order of invalidity regarding compliance
with the Growth Management Act since September 6 , 1996 ; and
WHEREAS , significant county resources have been devoted to achieving compliance
with the Act ; and
WHEREAS , non - compliance with the Act has and continues to have a serious impact on
the well being of the county , it' s residents and the business community ; and
WHEREAS , it is the belief of the County Commissioners that an expedient resolution of
this matter is in the best interest of the county .
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Mason County Commissioners
that the Director of Community Development is directed to prioritize all available resources
towards resolving the matter and to explore new avenues and approaches to address
unresolved matters . The Director is further directed to request both financial and technical
assistance from the Washington Office of Community Development and other state agencies .
The Director is further directed to work in good faith with all parties having an interest before the
Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board and to explore new ground which is
compliant with the Act within the parameter of the law , preserves the interests of the majority of
citizens of Mason County and takes into consideration public participation and concerns . The
Director is also directed to report periodically to the Commissioners his progress toward
resolution of the above matters .
