2023 Meeting Schedule
The Mason County Civil Service Commission will meet at 423 N. 5tn Street,
Shelton, WA 98584 at 5:00 pm on the third Thursday of each month. The
Commission will meet virtually via the Zoom platform. See dates listed
below.

Meeting Minutes
December 15, 2022
The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairperson Sue Ickes.
Attendance: Sue Ickes, Chair Mark Nault, Vice-Chair; and William Kendrick,
Commissioner
Others: Tami Beyer, and Becky Rogers.
Business:
1. Approval of Minutes: November 16, 2022 regular meeting minutes
Cmmrs. Kendrick/Nault moved and seconded to approve the November 16, 2022 regular meeting
minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
2. Chief Examiner Update
2.1. Position Tracking - 14 vacant funded positions for 2022/2023: Community
Service Officer-1; Corrections Deputy-6; Deputy Sheriff-2; Financial
Assistant-2; and Support Specialist-3
2.2. Civil Service Commissioner - County Commissioners will vote next Tuesday,
December 20, 2022, for reappointment of Bill Kendrick to a six year term.
3. Sheriff's Office Update
3.1. Corrections - They are having recruiting issues with not enough applicants.
One employee is moving to a different agency the end of December, and this
is reflected in the vacant positions.
3.2. Patrol - New hire coming on January 4, 2023.
3.3. Support Staff - Interviews next week. There are two Support Specialist
retiring in March and April in 2023.
3.4. Sheriff Elect Ryan Spurling will be sworn in on January 4, 2023, at 10 am in
Sheriff's Office training room.
3.5. K-9 Caliber is medically retired. Cmmr. Nault noted that the new K-9
replacement is funded by Our Community Credit Union (OCCU).
4. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 5:09 p.m.
