Restricting New Septic System Installation RESOLUTION NO rAl AN INTERIM MEASURE TO RESTRICT NEW SEPTIC SYSTEM INSTALLATION IN THE AREA BOUNDED BY GLADWIN BEACH ROAD TO BOAD HAVEN ROAD AND FROM NORTH SHORE ROAD TO LOWER HOOD CANAL UNTIL AREAS OF FILL CAN BE DETERMINED . WHEREAS , a portion of commercial the shellfish area known as Hood Canal #9 has been closed to shellfish harvest because of high fecal coliform counts in the Canal since 1988 , and WHEREAS , a hydraulic link has been established from septic systems installed in fill and fecal non-point pollution in Lower Hood Canal ; and WHEREAS , on April 12 , 2001 the Mason County Board of Health placed a moratorium on the issuance of new septic system permits in the area bounded by Gladwin Beach Road (including Pats Little Red Barn) to Boad Haven Road and from North Shore Road to Hood Canal except for those systems meeting the guidelines in Chapter 246 -272 WAC , NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT : The Mason County Board of Commissioners hereby enacts an interim measure to place a moratorium on new septic system permits in the area bounded by Gladwin Beach Road (including Pats Little Red Barn) to Boad Haven Road and from North Shore Road to Hood Canal except for those proposed systems meeting the guidelines in Chapter 246 . 272 WAC . The interim measure shall now remain in effect until the Centennial Clean Water Fund Grant work has determined the areas of fill or until termination of the grant on June 30 , 2002 .
