Stating When to Display the United States Flag and Washington State Flag at Half-Staff Resolution No . 100 - 04 A resolution stating when to display the United States flag and the Washington State flag at half- staff WHEREAS, it is the desire of Mason County to ensure the honor and reverence accorded to the solemn act of displaying the United States flag and the Washington State flag at half- staff is not eroded by lowering on inappropriate occasions and/or without the proper authority to do so . NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Mason County Commissioners to display the United States flag on Mason County property at half-staff on the following occasions : • Peace Officers Memorial Day - May 15 (if May 15 is the third Saturday in May - Armed Forces Day - the flag will be flown at the peak) • Memorial Day - last Monday of May - half-staff until noon • Patriot Day - September 11 • By the order of the President of the United States or an authorized representative Mason County shall display the Washington State flag on Mason County property at half- staff on the following occasions : • Whenever the United States flag is so flown • By the order of the Governor of the State of Washington or an authorized representative The Mason County Facilities & Grounds Manager shall coordinate the efforts of lowering the United States flag and the Washington State flag to half-staff on the above mentioned occasions .
