They are winding down their program and will be looking closely at the budget to determine if they can send
out a final newsletter to relate what they believe is a success story. The bigger part of the project will be the
Conservation District on the implementation which could not be completed until the summer. They are hopeful
the remainder of the inspections can be completed in June. It might be prolonged. They want to reach everyone
to participate in the inspection.
Chairperson Cady noted if there isn't enough money to send out a newsletter she expressed hope to get a good
article in the Journal.
Cmmr. Faughender questioned if there will be any measurement attempts to determine what the affect of
surveying and repairs has accomplished.
Mr. Dawes commented one indicator is the sampling which is completed in the Inlet. They have talked with
Water Quality about bringing the information to the committee. The water quality has been tested in several
locations in the Inlets over the time period of the inspections. They hope there is some improvements seen.
Wayne Clifford, Technical Administrator, commented there is also a person who works with Department of
Ecology who has a long term monitoring grant which is designed to measure and report.
Cmmr.Hunter added it is an active shellfish harvesting area which they are continuing to monitor. The County
should be able to review their records and determine if there is any change.
Harold Fitzwater commented they were told before the project began that Fawn Lake has an adverse affect in
the shellfish area, there was a very minute contamination. He questioned what might show up if there was a
minute contamination.
The Board commented even if the reports show a minimal increase in water quality would be better.
The Board requested that Mr. Clifford get a representative from Department of Ecology to attend a meeting
to report on testing.
CONSERVATION DISTRICT
Jim Barnes, Conservation District, reported there are 21 signed farm plans and he is actively working with six
other farmers in the upper end of Kamilche Valley. They have spent time working with kids on conservation
projects also.
Chairperson Cady asked where they are concentrating their efforts now.
Mr. Barnes commented the section of Oakland Bay they will work on next is north of Totten/Little Skookum
and Hammersly Inlet and west of Highway 101.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Harold Fitzwater inquired about the financial report for April.
The Board requested when the report is complete a.copy be sent to Warren Dawes and Harold Fitzwater.
Mr.Fitzwater commented he will be moving from Fawn Lake to Hidden Haven Mobile Home Park which will
be in Oakland Bay watershed. He requested if there is an advisory board, he would like to work with it.
