MASON CONSERVATION DISTRICT
Mike Madsen, Mason Conservation District, noted that very little time was spent on the Lower Hood Canal grant
this month. They spent most of their time coordinating the Kwik program with the students. They had 1350
students visit the conservation farm. Every school in Mason County was represented, except for Sandhill and Belfair

They are still working on the inventory portion for the Lower Hood Canal grant. This is'in two phases. There
are four inventories being taken. One by the District,River Basin Team, and two others which were axillary
inventories. They are trying to combine those in the office to see if there is some coordination between them.
They will talk to the Lower Hood Canal Clean Water District Advisory Committee to see about assistance with
a windshield survey. This will be phase two of the inventory. They have six months to complete that.
They are composing a 319 EPA grant for Lower Hood Canal District. They are putting together a model farm
for Lower Hood Canal District which would allow them to establish at least one site to use and coordinate with
several other programs they hope to have.
Cmmr. Faughender asked how they respond to complaints outside the Water District.
Mr.Madsen responded they refer to Mason County Water Quality or Department of Ecology. They can only
address an issue if the landowner contacts them.
