Residential Drug Disposal 5.1 Product Stewardship Proposal — Terri Thomas, Thurston County Solid Waste, discussed product stewardship. The main issue is that two systems are working independently. The manufactures are designing and producing products and local government is responsible for maintaining the funding for the disposal of the waste created by the products. If the manufacture were responsible for the end of life disposal of their products the costs could be passed onto the consumer and the consumer may be more likely to purchase reusable products. The Northwest Product Stewardship Council is also working on a bill for a drug take back program and she is trying to obtain support for this upcoming legislation. 5.2 Vicki Kirpatrick, Mason County Public Health Director, provided an update on Mason County's drug take back program.
