Attendance: Mason County Board Members: Lynda Ring -Erickson; Tim Sheldon; Steve Bloomfield
Ex-Officio Board Members: Scott Hilburn, Hospital District #1; Peggy VanBuskirk, Hospital
District #2; Frank Phillips, Fire Commissioner.
1. Commissioner Bloomfield called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m.
2. Cmmr. Ring Erickson/Sheldon moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as published. Motion
carried unanimously. RE -aye; S-aye; B-aye.
3. Cmmr. Ring Erickson/Sheldon moved and seconded to adopt the regular meeting minutes of October
25, 2011 as presented. Motion carried unanimously. RE -aye; S-aye; B-aye
4. Influenza and its Vaccine — Why does Public Health care so much about the flu? Dr. Yu provided a
PowerPoint presentation regarding influenza.
5. Office of the Director
5.1 Health Officer Report — Dr. Yu reported that there has been a problem with raw milk consumption
and E-Coli. There have been confirmed outbreaks in Thurston and Pierce counties.
5.2 Director Report — Vicki Kirkpatrick shared that Shelton High School students were working with
the Health Department on a school project regarding bike helmets. The students were able to
obtain a grant for bicycle safety.
6. Office of Environmental Health
6.1 Manager's Report — Debbie Riley reported that she is still waiting to hear if the department will be
the recipient of a Hood Canal PIC grant. They are currently finalizing the Centennial Clean Water
grant
6.2 Water Quality Report — Ms. Riley stated that Oakland Bay was closed due to rain. The Anna's
Bay growing area is also closed until further notice.
6.3 Waivers — Ms. Riley provided the current environmental waivers for the Board's information.
7. Office of Community and Family Health
7.1 Manager's Report — The manager was absent.
8. Public Comment — There was no public comment.
9. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 4:19 p.m.
