Tim Sheldon - absent
Ex-Officio Board Members: Peggy VanBuskirk, Hospital District #2; Frank Philips, Fire
Commissioner.
Scott Hilburn, Hospital District #1 - absent
1. Commissioner Ring Erickson called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
2. Cmmr. Bloomfield/Ring Erickson moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as published. Motion
carried unanimously. RE -aye; B-aye; S-absent.
3. Cmmr. Bloomfield/Ring Erickson moved and seconded to elect Commissioner Bloomfield as the
Chair of the Board of Health. Motion carried unanimously. RE -aye; B-aye; S-absent.
4. Cmmr. Ring Erickson/Bloomfield moved and seconded to adopt the June 30, 2011 Joint
Thurston/Mason Meeting as presented. Motion carried unanimously. RE -aye; B-aye; S-absent.
5. Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental ChangE (ACHIEVE) Grant — Lydia
Buchheit and Heidi Iyall provided a Power Point presentation regarding the grant.
Cmmr. Ring Erickson noticed that a City of Shelton staff member was part of the ACHIEVE team. She
was concerned that the City has never participated in the Board of Health even though they have been
invited to attend.
6. Website Update — Vicki Kirkpatrick explained that Health Department's website has been updated to
provide easier access to the citizens.
7. Office of Director
• Health Officer Report — Dr. Yu reported that there would be training at Mason General Hospital for
local physicians regarding opiate replacement therapy. She also reminded the Board to get their flu
shots.
• Director Report — Ms. Kirkpatrick reported that the department is completing annual performance
evaluations for staff. The MAPP process is progressing well and the outcome will be a community
health improvement plan in the fall of next year. She is also sitting on the planning team for the
Regional Health Improvement Collaborative. She shared an article regarding the health costs
associated with heavy drinking.
8. Office of Environmental Health
• Water Quality Update — Debbie Riley provided the water quality update. The only area currently
closed is Oakland Bay, due to rain. Nine of twelve D-listed streams in the county have been requested
to be removed from the Department of Ecology list.
• Waivers — Ms. Riley presented the Board with the current Environmental Health Waivers.
9. Office of Community & Family Health
• Community & Family Health Manager Report — Ms. Buchheit asked the Board to sign a letter of
support for the department to apply for a NACCHO grant.
10. Public Comment

• Cmmr. Bloomfield commented on the shingles virus vaccine and noted that the shellfish growers had a
water clean up in September to remove garbage from the Sound.
11. Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 4 : 3 9 p.m.
