Information/Discussion
The Hope Garden is now complete and has 16 plots. There are some extra plots that will
be used for the schools. Besides the food grown in the garden, the Hope Garden also
provided meaningful work/learning for the students who were involved and a sense of
"community" for all of the people involved.
Commissioner Ring Ericson stated that she would like to have Board of Health meeting
in Belfair once the sewer project is complete.
A joint letter of interest has been submitted for the Community Transformation Grant
Proposal. The proposal is a regional proposal that includes Mason, Thurston, Grays
Harbor, Lewis and Pacific Counties. However, only Thurston, Grays Harbor and Lewis
Counties will receive funding if the state grant application is successful. The Department
of Health did not identify either Mason or Pacific Counties as meeting the criteria for
selection to receive funding. However, the Department of Health appreciated the support
and inclusion of both Mason and Pacific Counties in the letter of interest and has said
they hope to find other funding to support Mason and Pacific Counties. Regardless of
whether or not Mason and Pacific are funding, we will benefit from the work that
Thurston, Grays Harbor and Lewis Counties will do. The grant application is due by July
