Ex-Officio Board Members: Scott Hilburn, Hospital District #1; Peggy VanBuskirk, Hospital District #2; Frank Phillips, Fire Commissioner; Mike Olsen, City of Shelton Commissioner. 1. Cmmr. Bloomfield called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. 2. Cmmr. Shelton/Ring Erickson moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as published. Motion carried unanimously. RE -aye; S-aye; B-aye. 3. Cmmr. Ring Erickson/Sheldon moved and seconded to adopt the regular meeting minutes of May 22, 2012 as presented. Motion carried unanimously. RE -aye; S-aye; B-aye 4. Cancer Rates in Mason County. Dr. Diana Yu presented information on cancer incidence and mortality rates in Mason County from the Washington State Cancer Registry. This information does not include blood cancers. Highest cancer incidence rates are in breast, prostate, lung and melanoma. Mason and Grays Harbor Counties have higher lung cancer rates compared to other counties. She noted these two counties also have high tobacco use and high particulate matter. Dr. Yu explained how she reads and interprets the information. There was general discussion of ways to prevent cancer, particularly the need to reduce tobacco use. 5. Administration 5.1 Health Officer Report- Dr. Yu stating they are working with Squaxin Island Tribe on the canoe journey and the public is invited to the event. Pertussis continues to be a concern in the state. 5.2 Director Report — Vicki Kirkpatrick noted that in all of the Health Department programs, they educate the public but if need be, they also do enforcement when the county has the authority. Ms. Kirkpatrick reviewed future Board of Health agenda items. For the August agenda, WSAC staff will attend and there will be a youth services presentation. For future agendas John Keates & Mark Ziegler will be invited to discuss access to physical activity; water quality and the community health assessment will be discussed and staff from Mason General and Harrison Hospital will be invited to talk about health reform. 6. Environmental Health 6.1 Manager's Report - Debbie Riley reported a Model Practice Award was presented to Mason County Public Health for its innovative program Clean Water District Model on July 12, 2012 by NACCHO (National Association of County & City Health Officials). 6.2 Water Quality Update - Staff is collecting samples in Hood Canal for Vibrio. 6.3 Waivers — Ms. Riley provided the current environmental health waivers for the Board's information. 7. Office of Community & Family Health — No report. 8. Public Comment - Due to time constraints no public comment was taken. 9.
