County Commissioner; Terry Megiveron, Hospital District 441; Peggy VanBuskirk, Hospital District 442; Frank Phillips, Fire Commissioner; Mike Olsen, City of Shelton Commissioner 1. The Chairperson called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. 2. Introductions were made. 3. VanBuskirk/Phillips moved and seconded to adopt the agenda as written. Motion carried unanimously 4. VanBuskirk/Neatherlin moved and seconded to adopt the regular meeting minutes of January 27, 2015 meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried unanimously. 5. Public Health Week: The first full week in April is National Public Health Week Allie Perline spoke about community health and announced the theme for Public Health Week is "Healthiest 2030" Plan for Public Health Month in Mason County: The outlets that will be used are: Social media, radio interviews, flyers and events. Allie said she hopes this will help start conversations and create dialogue regarding Public Health. Cnunr Neatherlin asked for the health rankings to be sent to him Allie said she would send the information to Cmmr. Neatherlin. Proclamation: Allie Perline read the proposed proclamation. "National Public Health Week & Public Health Month in Mason County' . Vicki said they will bring this to the Board of County Commissioners. Olsen/VanBuskirk moved and seconded to approve the Proclamation "National Public Health Week & Month in Mason County". Motion carried unanimously. 6. The Health of Mason County: Vicki Kirkpatrick spoke about the 2015 County Health Rankings and roadmaps to health. This information will be available on the County Website starting tomorrow March 25, 2015. She stated the purpose of these rankings is to provide information to improve health. Vicki shared that there is a high adult rate of smoking and obesity in Mason County In Mason County, the un-insured rate is higher than the statewide average She said people are not living as long in Mason County. These rankings were based on the current population of Mason County which is 60,497. The health rankings will be available at "Countyhealthrankings. org". 7. Health Officer Report: Dr. Yu said measles is still going around and she urges people to get measles vaccinations. She said they hope to get a public clinic established for vaccines Dr. Yu also mentioned that Pertussis (whooping cough) is also a concern. There are no confirmed cases in Mason County although there have been outbreaks in surrounding counties. She said it has been seen mainly in the 14-18 year old age group and the most significant concern is that infants can die from it. There were 62 cases of pertussis in Kitsap County. Peggy VanBuskirk stated that people should get immunizations before holding babies or being around infants. Board Comments or Discussion: Dr. Yu said today is national TB day. It is important for everyone to know their risk to TB and know if there has been an exposure. There is a simple test to see if a person has the TB infection. The hope is to get TB down to zero. BOARD OF HEALTH PROCEEDINGS March 24, 2015 PAGE 2 Terry Megiveron announced that May 11-15, 2015 is "Hospital Week". There will be various health events at the Hospital and there will be interviews on KMAS with various physicians, etc. 9. Public Comment — There was no public comment. 10. Other: Next meeting will be May 26, 2015. 11.
