A Resolution amending Resolution 62A-92-Establishing the Criminal Justice Working Team.
WHEREAS IVrason County crimfnat ustice professionals have informally organizedthemseives and-
worked collaboratively since 1989 to reduce the demands on, and respond to the needs of the criminal
justice system, and
WHEREAS in 1992 the Mason County Board of Commissioners entered into a memorandum of
agreement with the Skokomish Indian Tribe, Squaxin Indian Tribe and the City of Shelton to form the
Criminal Justice Working Team, and
WHEREAS in 1992 the Mason County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 62A-92, formally
recognizing the Criminal Justice Working Team as Mason County s Community Corrections Board,
pursuant to RCW 72.09.300 and
WHEREAS the 2007 Washington State Legislature amended RCW 72.09.300 and 2007 c 483 s 108
amending the duties of the local law and justice councils formed pursuant to RCW 72.09.300, and
WHEREAS Mason County Board of Commissioners finds through a coordinated, comprehensive, multi-
disciplinary approach, Mason County law and justice professionals can reduce crime and enhance safety
for Mason County citizens.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mason County Board of Commissioners that Resolution NO.
62A-92 be revised.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Criminal Justice Working Team be re -affirmed and established as the
Mason County local law and justice council pursuant to RCW 72.09.300 and organized as follows:
Purpose. Pursuant to By -Laws adopted May, 2012, The Criminal Justice Working Team represents the
agencies and institutions responsible for the administration of the criminal justice systems in Mason
County. The members identify issues, questions and concerns, develop consensus on funding priorities
within the criminal justice system, act as a clearing house for criminal justice information, advise political
decision makers on criminal justice matters, and strive to keep the public informed. These activities will
be aligned with the Vision and Mission statements and implementing Strategies as adopted by the
Criminal Justice Working Team. The purpose of the Criminal Justice Working Team is to ensure that the
criminal justice system in Mason County runs as efficiently, effectively and openly as possible.
Membership. Membership of the Criminal Justice Working Team shall include the following, or their
representative:
Mason County Sheriff
Mason County Prosecutor
Mason County Public Defender
City of Shelton Police Chief
Squaxin Tribe Police Chief
Skokomish Tribe Police Chief
One member of the City of Shelton Board of Commissioners
One member of the Mason County Board of County Commissioners
Representative of the City of Shelton Municipal Court
Representative of the Mason County Superior, Juvenile and District Courts
Mason County Jail Chief
Mason County Clerk
Mason County Risk Manager
Washington State Patrol Representative
Washington State Secretary of Corrections or his or her designees
Duties. Duties of the Criminal Justice Working Team include those outlined in RCW 79.09.300 and any
other areas pertaining to criminal justice that the group believes need to be addressed.
To execute these duties, the Criminal Justice Working Team Will:
1. Act in an advisory capacity;
2. Function as a problem solving task force, and
3. Serve as a liaison to citizens.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of County Commissioners has adopted Resolution
amending Resolution 62A-92, establishing the Criminal Justice Working Team.
