On site conditions at the site required construction of an exterior foundation wall to be
excavated to a construction height of 12 feet to retain back fill. However, the actual
retaining wall force at the toe of the wall will be restrained by interior back fill and a
garage floor slab preventing slippage at a base height of 8 feet maximum. In addition,
the retaining wall is buttressed to each side with two wing walls 6 feet to center of wall
maximum and when back filled to 4 feet on the interior the retaining wall is actually 8
feet in height. The wall can also be classified as a deep foundation and fixed at the top
of the fill elevation.
Hence; use the prescriptive Table provided on page 2/2 to form the footing dimension
and rebar sizing for an 8 foot wall.
