Caution: Materials made of porous stones or sedimentary rocks may crack due to expansion of the material if placed around this appliance. Use suitable materials which are crack resistant and high temperature resistant. 85-03-01113 DXV35DT4 Page 19 3.2.3.5 Constructing the Appliance Chase A chase is a vertical box-like structure built to enclose this fireplace and its vent system. Vertical vents that run on the outside of a building may be,but are not required to be,installed inside a chase. Construction of the chase may vary with the type of building. These instructions are not substitutes for the requirements of local building codes. Local building codes MUST be adhered to. Chases should be constructed in the manner of all outside walls of the home to prevent cold air drafting problems. The chase should not break the outside building envelope in any manner. Wall, ceiling, base plate and cantilever floor of the chase should be insulated. Vapor and air infiltration barriers should be installed in the chase as per regional codes for the rest of the home.Additionally,in regions where cold air infiltration may be an issue, the inside surfaces of the chase may be sheet rocked and taped for maximum air tightness. To further prevent drafts, the fire stops should be caulked with high temperature caulk to seal the gaps. Gas line holes and other openings should be caulked with high temp caulk or stuffed with unfaced insulation. If the appliance is being installed on a cement slab,a layer of plywood may be placed underneath this fireplace to prevent conducting cold up into the room WALL TI-- - -- 12" SECTION i- - 47_ i r r0 A r Figure 3-19 Floor to Vent Cap Center Dimension 85-03-01113 DXV35DT4 Page 20 46 3.2.4 Clearance Requirements 3.2.4.1 Clearance from Appliance Body and Vent —— 2" Mari. 90* L -- 12" SECTION { i I 2'2 -B- r 1 t -A- r a CLEARANCES: ZERO TO SIDES 1cRO TO FLOOR A.2 I/7'FROM IOP B 1"HORIiONTAL TO VENT PIP:- Figure 3-20 CLEARANCES TO BODY& VENT Figure 3-21 CLEARANCES TO VENT The required clearances are depicted in these diagrams. 1. Minimum Clearance from fireplace body sides to combustibles is zero. 2. Minimum Clearance from fireplace top surface to combustibles is 2-1/2"or zero from top edge of top triangle standoffs. 3. Minimum Clearance from vertical vent pipe sides to combustibles is 1". 4. Minimum Clearance below horizontal vent pipe or components is 1". 5. Minimum Clearance above elbows and horizontal vent pipe and components is 2". 85-03-01113 DXV35DT4 Page 21 3.2.4.2 Hearth Pad Requirement A non-combustible hearth protector with a thermal insulation rating of R-1 is required when installing this fireplace directly on the floor and must extend a minimum of 12"in front of this fireplace. To build an R-1 rated hearth protection pad, begin by laying down a%'thick layer of an R-1 rated Mineral board(see ,21.6.3 Suitable Finishing Materials R-Rating )and then add a 1"thick top layer of noncombustible material such as stone, granite, marble or the like. For every 1" the fireplace is raised off the floor, the depth of the required hearth protector may be reduced by 2". If fireplace is raised off the floor 6" or more, no hearth protector is required for fire protection. Caution: The fireplace creates localized heat and causes thermal expansion of adjacently installed flooring and wall materials. Vinyl floors and floating Engineered wood floors may warp if installed in front of this unit even when this fireplace is raised 6" or more due to local heating up of the floor materials. Never use vinyl or Engineered wood flooring in the hearth pad area in front of this fireplace unless you plan to raise this unit 12" or more above the floor level. Caution: Modern carpets use polypropylene, nylon or polyester fibers in the upper visible layer. These fibers when exposed to radiant heat can curl and stiffen. It is not possible to prevent radiation effects to the carpet fibers even when this unit is raised high. Avoid installing carpets in the hearth pad area in front of this Fireplace unless this fireplace is raised at least 12 inches above the carpet level. This fireplace may be installed in an elevated position by created an elevated deck and an appropriate framed enclosure. NOTE: This fireplace may be elevated but MUST allow a minimum of 72"distance between this fireplace's floor level and the ceiling of the room. _'-- -90' L - I T Clearonce w—a Min.Above I Vent. 1 -- ----- a 1' __ "----- FLOOR TO 12' W COMBUSTIBLE 4-M-5111 MANTEL - Vent TO CHASE CEILING 7- 47-1/Er FLOOR TO FLOOR TOP OF TOP TO VENT 1 1/2'Max.
