Mason County Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes October 21, 2021 The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. virtually by Chairperson Ickes. Attendance: Susan Ickes, Chair; William Kendrick, Vice-Chair; Mark Nault, Commissioner Others: Tami Beyer, Kevin Hanson, and Becky Rogers. 1. Approval of Minutes: September 16, 2021 regular meeting minutes and October 8, 2021 special meeting minutes. Cmmrs. Kendrick/Nault moved and seconded to approve the September 16, 2021 regular meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Cmmrs. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to approve the October 8, 2021 special meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. 2. Chief Examiner Update 2.1. Position Tracking - 9 vacant funded positions: Corrections Deputy-6; Deputy Sheriff-1; and Records Specialist-2. 2.2. Records Specialist Eligibility List Status - Oral Board interviews are scheduled for November 3 and an eligibility list will be established and submitted to the Sheriff's Office by the end of the week. 2.3. Corrections Corporal Eligibility List - Promotional -- The deadline for submitting a letter of intent is Friday, October 21. An unranked eligibility list will be submitted to the Sheriff's Office, if five or less candidates apply. 3. Sheriff's Office Update 3.1. Corrections - Chief Hanson reported that three Entry Level Correction Deputy candidates are in background. One of the three candidates has been given a conditional offer. Interviews are being scheduled for the remainder of the nine certified names on the eligibility list. Deputy Dierick has been assigned to day shift on Monday through Friday to focus on recruitment/retention/training officer for Corrections. She will be concentrating on job fairs, backgrounds, interviews and as FTO Coordinator. 3.2. Patrol - Chief Beyer shared that Mason County Emergency Communications (MACECOM) has a shortage in personnel and also is having a difficult time filling positions. They have three new hires and recently obtained three laterals from Washington State Patrol. This will help to provide overall better service. Support Staff - Establishment of the Records Specialist eligibility list will enable Chief Beyer to begin the interview and background process the six certified names to fill two vacant positions. 4.
