Meeting Minutes
September 17, 2020
The regular meeting was called to order at 5 : 00 p . m. virtually via the Zoom platform by Chairperson Ickes .
Attendance : Susan Ickes , Chair and Mark Nault, Commissioner — Excused Absence : William Kendrick,
Vice-Chair
Others : Tami Beyer, Sheryl Hilt, Shane Schoeneberg, and Becky Rogers .
Business :
1 . Approval of Minutes : August 20, 2020 regular meeting minutes .
Cmmn Naultl7ckes moved and seconded to approve the regular meeting minutes dated August 20, 2020
as circulated Motion carried unanimously.
2 . Public Hearing — In response to the COVID- 19 outbreak and no in-person meetimgs , we will accept public
comment via email to Becky Rogers at rsrkco . mason.wa.us twenty-four (24) hours prior to the meeting .
— No hearing(s) at this time.
3 . Chief Examiner Update
3 . 1 . Position Tracking — 4 vacant and funded FTE positions . Deputy Sheriff — 2 ; Corrections Deputy —
1 ; Records Specialist — 1 .
Sheryl Hilt added that after the briefing with the Mason County Commissioners on Monday
approval was given to hire two deputy sheriff positions . One position had been on hold due to
budgeting.
4 . Sheriff' s Office Update
4 . 1 Clerical Matrix — Chief Beyer gave an update from last month explaining that she briefed with the
County Commissioners on August 24th regarding the proposed clerical matrix and it was well
received. Following that meeting she met with the union representative and was notified that the
union is having a meeting on September 21 to discuss this matter. Currently, the proposal is on
hold until the union signs an MOU regarding the Clerical Matrix proposal .
Becky Rogers stated that when the union signs an MOU it would require action by the Civil
Service to approve the proposed revised position descriptions to change the titles and language for
the three positions— Clerk, Records Specialist and Civil Clerk and also set a hearing to consider
approval for revisions to the Civil Service Rules .
4 . 2 Chief Beyer informed the Board that Dion Johnson was recently hired as a Lateral Entry Deputy
Sheriff from the Seattle Police Department bringing four years ' experience with him.
4 . 3 Chair Ickes expressed that all of the men and women in the Mason County Sheriff' s Office should
be commended for their professionalism in handling the current activities and protests recently on
Sunday, September 9th,
4 .4 It was noted that the Records Specialist Eligibility List is down to two names .

4 . 5 Corrections Deputy — There are no names currently on the eligibility list. Becky Rogers reported
Public Safety Testing has been testing; however, there is limited interest in the Corrections
positions at this time.
5 . The meeting adjourned at 5 : 16 p .m.
