Call Meeting to Order: The regularly scheduled CS Commission meeting was held in Mason County Building 8. Present: Commissioner Skeeters-Lindsey, Commissioner Bariekman, Chief Examiner Roxanne Bruner, Guest Chief Jan Alvord, Mason County Sheriff's Office The meeting came to order at 4:03 PM II. Minutes: November 15, 2012 The November minutes were read and a motion to approve was made by Commissioner Skeeters- Lindsey, second by Commissioner Bariekman, signed by Commissioner Skeeters-Lindsey and Chief Examiner. III. Business A. Old Business • Sheriff Update - Systems Tech The Assessment test was conducted on Saturday December 8th at the Mason County Sheriff's Office. Applicants were scored and the information was passed on to the Chief Examiner. The Oral Boards were held on Saturday December 151h. Oral Board examiners provided raw scores and notes to the Chief Examiner. Cumulative scores were made and an eligibility list was created by the Chief Examiner, presented to the Civil Service Commission for approval, signed by the commission and forwarded to the Mason County Sheriff's Office. Applicants have been notified of the score and eligibility ranking. The Sheriff's Office will now conduct background checks and make a conditional offer of employment. • Civil Service Rules Changes • Chief Jan Alvord reported that the Sheriff's Office is reviewing the recommendations made at the last meeting from Commissioner Bright. • Chief Alvord requested that section 8.15.D 3 of the Civil Service Rules include a part b; to include experience as a part of the position description for clerk. The inclusion of part b will create consistency in formatting with other position requirements of the section. • Chief Examiner Submissions: • Expenses to date submitted for review by commissioners. • Letter to County Commissioners for CE Salary increase submitted with comparables. This will be edited and sent to commissioners for approval after the January meeting. • Meeting dates for 2013 Public Meetings of the Civil Service Commission shall be posted in the Mason County Journal on a monthly basis once the new commissioner appointed January 2 and is able to confirm the dates for 2013 with the entire Civil Service Commission at the January 17th meeting. B. New Business • Sheriff's Office • Job Position Title Change Chief Alvord presented research from comparable counties and indicated that the Civil Service Rules are updated to reflect current employment language used for the position description of Records Clerk 1 & 2 and that they be amended to Records Specialist. • New Hiring for Records Specialist Chief Alvord requested that as soon as the changes are made for Records Clerk 1 & 2 to Records Specialist that a job announcement shall be made for examination process for hiring a new Records Specialist for the Mason County Sheriff's Office. It was recommended that the former Chief Examiner be contacted for an electronic version of the test that had been used in the past for use in the next hiring round for Records Clerk. • A motion was made by Commissioner Skeeters-Lindsey to approve the requested changes of adding part b to section 8.15.1) 3 and to accept the comparable research to change the Position Title of Records Clerk to Records Specialist. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Bariekman. Motion approved. IV. Adjourn: Commissioner Skeeters-Lindsey moved to adjourn the meeting, second by Commissioner Bariekman.
