HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/17/2013 MASON COUNTY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Regular Meeting October 17, 2013 A) Call Meeting to Order—Commissioner Lindsey called the meeting to order at 5:02 pm. B) Roll Call— Present: Chair Danielle Skeeters-Lindsey, Commissioner Brian Kelly, Chief Examiner Louann Davis, Undersheriff Barrett and Chief Jan Alvord. Commissioner Joene Lott, excused. Q Approval of Minutes: September 19, 2013—Commissioner Kelly moved to accept. Motion passed. D) Business 1. Sheriff Update— Undersheriff Barrett announced that the County Commissioners approved the use of the Corporal and Lieutenant classifications. He stated that the Lieutenant position would be a non-union but covered under Civil Service. The SO is working on the proposed salary alinement for the Lieutenant which has not been determined. In addition, he said a management bargaining unit may be formed. He stated that Thurston County is looking at a number of our Corrections Officers for filling new positions in Thurston County. He stated that the renovations to the jail have started. The renovations in a new roof, monitor or a few other items. Lastly, the testing for the Financial Assistant should be done before the end of the year. 2. Chief Examiner Recruitment— The Chief Examiner explained that a ad was placed in the Mason County Journal but she did not received any interest. The Chief Examiner gave the CS commission an update on the meeting with the HR Director, Bill Kenny. She explained that Mr. Kenny was charged with the task of looking at a number of the boards and commissions in Mason County and the duties and needs of each. The concept as explained was to combine some of these duties and needs under one position with the county. She explained that Mr Kenny would be at the next meeting to answer any questions or concerns that the commissioners might have in reference to combining duties and needs. 3. Chief Examiner Update: Busy with setting up the Sgt.Assessment center. Announcements are out for both Sgt. and Corporal. The written for the Corporal will be October 21 and the oral board will be on October 29. Currently have 15 candidates taking the Corporal examinations and 16 for Sergeant Assessment Center.
