The regular meeting was called to order at 5 : oo p . m . , in the Mason County Building s., Commission
Chambers, at 411 N . 5th Street, Shelton , WA by Vice - Chairperson Ickes .
Attendance : Susan Ickes, Vice - Chair and William Kendrick, Commissioner
Others : Chief Tami Beyer, Sheryl Hilt, Finance Manager, and Becky Rogers, Chief Examiner
Business :
1 . Approval of Minutes : August 15 , 2019 regular meeting minutes .
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the meeting minutes dated August 1s" 2019 as
circulated. Motion carried unanimously.
2 . Chief Examiner Update
2 . 1 . Position Tracking — 3 vacant and funded FTE positions .
2 . 2 . Civil Service Commission Resignation by Matt Davis — The vacant position will be posted by
the Mason County Commissioners in a news release asking for interested applicants .
Cmmr. Ickes expressed interest in asking the County Commissioners to increase the Civil
Service Commission from three to five members , as allowed in the RCW, to allow for a
quorum of members .
2 . 3 . Public Safety Testing Event is scheduled for Sunday, September 29 , 2019 at Shelton ,
Washington for entry level Corrections Deputy and Deputy Sheriff applicants .
3 . Sheriff' s Office Update
3 . 1 . Rule of Three - - Chief Beyer requested that the Civil Service Commission consider
increasing the number of candidates to be certified on the eligibility list for the class from
the three persons highest on the eligibility list to five . There are individuals on the
eligibility list that have taken employment elsewhere but want to remain on the list. Unless
the Sheriff' s office offers a job to a candidate and the offer is declined , the name cannot be
removed from the eligibility list . The Chief Examiner to research .
3 . 2 . The Patrol Division has requested a promotional list for Sergeant and Corporal . Human
Resources is discussing the timing of this promotional test with the Sheriff' s office and the
possibility of combining this with the Corrections Deputy Sergeant and Corporal
promotional testing after the first of the year.
