HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/16/2016 Mason County Civil Service Commission Building 1 —Commission Chambers 411 N. 5th Street, Shelton, WA 98584 August 18, 2016 5:00 p.m. Call Meeting to Order: 5:00 PM Roll Call: Commissioners Dean Byrd, Chair,Brian Kelly,Vice-Chair, Danielle Skeeters- Lindsey, Chief Examiner Dawn Twiddy, Chief Jan Shepherd Business: A. Commissioners Kelly/Byrd moved and seconded to approve the special meeting minutes of August 2, 2016. Motion carried with all in favor. B. Chief Examiner Update a. Chief Examiner Twiddy discussed the open Civil Service positions. b. Chief Examiner Twiddy presented the Commissioners with the Corporal and Sergeant testing schedule. C. Sheriff's Office Update a. Chief Shepherd discussed not being able to use the temp agency,Kelly Services for the extra help position in the jail. She said the temp agency wanted to be able to see the security clearance tests that would be given to the individual sent out to do the job. Due to confidential security questions the tests can't be given out to the temp agency. Chief Shepherd stated she would hire a temporary person to fill the position from the Records Specialist Eligibility List that was just created and sent over, with the understanding to the person that it was not a promise to hire them in a regular full time position. Chief Shepherd did offer the internal person that applied for the Record Specialist position the promotion, effective September Pt, and has spoken to Chief Examiner Twiddy about opening and creating a new eligibility list for the Clerk position. b. Chief Examiner presented on behalf of Chief Osterhout's request a change in the Employment Standards for Mason County Sheriff's Office. The employment standards set standards that applicants must meet prior to appointment to an appointment to a position. Mason County Civil Service Proceedings August 18, 2016 Page 2 The changes were read into the record and discussed. Commissioners Kelly/Byrd moved and seconded to approve the Mason County Sheriffs Office Employment Standards to be changed to reflect two sections to be added under"Conduct",which reads, "Acts or conduct that would cause a reasonable person to have substantial doubts about the individual's honesty, fairness, respect for the rights of others, or for the laws of the state and/or the nation." and "Conduct that adversely reflects on the individual's character to perform the duties of a Deputy Sheriff or Corrections Deputy." .
