Meeting Minutes
July 18, 2019
The regular meeting was called to order at 5 : oo p . m . , in the Mason County Building 1, Commission
Chambers, at 411 N . 5th Street, Shelton , WA by Susan Ickes .
Attendance : Sue Ickes and Bill Kendrick; Excused Absence : Matt Davis
Others : Tami Beyer, Chief; Sheryl Hilt, Finance Manager; and Becky Rogers, Chief Examiner
Election of Officers : Cmmr . Ickes nominated Matt Davis as Chair .
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to appoint Matt Davis as chair. Motion carried unanimously.
Cmmr . Ickes nominated Susan Ickes as Vice - Chair .
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to appoint Susan Ickes as vice- chair. Motion carried
unanimously.
Business :
1 . Approval of Minutes : June 20, 2019 regular meeting minutes .
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the June 20, 2019 meeting minutes
as circulated. Motion carried unanimously.
2 . Chief Examiner Update
2 . 1 . Position Tracking — 5 vacant and funded FTE positions .
2 . 2 . Position Descriptions — Approval of revised position descriptions .
The Chief Examiner presented two position descriptions within the Jail (corrections) with
recommended revisions including physical requirements, training , and formatting similar to
other position descriptions, including signature lines for HR and Civil Service . The position
descriptions were submitted to Chief Hanson for review and comment and then circulated
with the meeting packet . A brief discussion followed .
2 . 2 . 1 . Corrections Corporal
2 . 2 . 2 . Corrections Sergeant
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the revised position
descriptions for Corrections Corporal and Corrections Sergeant. Motion carried
unanimously.
2 . 3 . Records Specialist Eligibility List Status — Notice was given that the oral boards for the
Records Specialist position will be complete on Friday and an eligibility list will be
established following that .

24 . 2 . Corrections Sergeant
2 . 5 . Approval to set a public hearing on 8/ 15/2019 at 5 : 00 p . m . to consider revisions to Civil
Service Rule 8 . 17A Probationary Period . The notice of hearing and proposed language was

circulated with the meeting packet. Civil Service Rule 1 . 2 Amendments addresses proper
notice for any proposed changes to the Civil Service rules .
Chief Tami Beyer asked if there were any questions . There was a brief discussion .
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to set a public hearing on August 15,
2019 at 5 pm to consider revisions to Civil Service Rule 8. 17A Probationary Period.
Motion carried unanimously.
3 . Sheriff' s Office Update
3 . 1 . Approval of revisions to the MCSO Employment Standards relating to Automatic Removal
Factors; Potential Removal Factors - Conduct, Drug Standards and Cooperation with
Background Investigation .
Chief Tami Beyer inquired if the board had any questions with the circulated proposed
revisions to the MCSO Employment Standards . There was a brief discussion .
She noted there was further discussion in the MCSO following the last Civil Service meeting
and it was recommended because marijuana is legal it should be listed under potential
removal factors " Use of marijuana in the last 3 years " .
Cmmr. Kendrick/Ickes moved and seconded to approve the proposed MCSO
Employment Standards relating to Automatic Removal Factors; Potential Removal
Factors — Conduct, Drug Standards and Cooperation with Background Investigation.
Motion carried unanimously.
3 . 2 Clerk — Chief Beyer stated that they have in backgrounding the last person they will
background from the certified eligibility list . If this eligible does not pass the background a
new eligibility list will be requested .
