HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/19/2018 Mason County Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes April sg, 203m8 The regular meeting was called to order at 5 : o5 p . m . , in the Mason County Building 1, Commission Chambers, at Oil N . 51h Street, Shelton , WA by Vice - Chairperson Kelly . Attendance : Brian Kelly and Matthew Davis; Excused Absence : B . Dean Byrd Others : Chief Kevin Hanson , Chief Tami Beyer; and Becky Rogers, Chief Examiner Business : A . Approval of Minutes : March 15, 2o18 regular meeting minutes . Commission Member Davis/Kelly moved and seconded to approve the March 15, 2018 regular meeting minutes as submitted. Motion carried unanimously. B . Chief Examiner Update a . Vacant Position Update — 4 Corrections ( Officers) Deputies and 1 Records Specialist . b . Memorandum of Understanding — Conversion of Corrections Corporal position to Corrections Sergeant position . The Mason County Commissioners approved on 4/17/2o18 the Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU ) converting a Corrections Corporal position to a Corrections Sergeant position . This will bring the number of Sergeant positions to 4 . c . Reversion Letters ( Dracobly & Adams ) — These individuals were promoted to an unclassified position ( command staff) and the letters will be placed into their personnel file giving them reversionary rights, per CSR 9 . 6 . d . Promotional Corrections Corporal & Corrections Sergeant Positions — The written test is scheduled on Wednesday, April 25; The Assessment Center is scheduled on May 23 C . Sheriff' s Office Update a . Records Specialist Conditional Offer -- Chief Beyer reported the applicant needs to pass her polygraph test . b . Records Specialist Maternity Leave — One staff will be leaving on maternity leave and they will have more information next week . c . Records Specialist Extra Help/ Provisional — They have not used the extra help/ provisional requested earlier this year . It will be necessary to utilize that now . Barb Hubbard is willing and able to start when they need her . d . Corrections Staffing — Chief Hanson discussed the shortage of staffing in the jail . They are funded for 27 corrections deputy positions in the jail . The jail population is capped at 80, as imposed by the Sheriff. The total number of FTE ' s needed to run the jail at this population is 30 . 3 FTE . Currently they have 24 filled positions with one on military leave . The 30 . 3 FTE is taking into consideration factors such as vacation , military leave, holiday leave, and sick leave . Chief Hanson was advised by Support Services Director Frank Pinter that Civil Service could advertise to fill the vacant position and Human Resources would reimburse to cover any costs as the Sheriff does not have funds to cover for advertising . Commission Member Davis/Kelly moved and seconded to approve to pay up to $2000 (contingent on budget) for advertising for corrections (officer) deputy positions with the commitment that Human Resources will reimburse.
