HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/17/2013 MASON COUNTY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSIONERS' PROCEEDINGS January 17, 2013 1. Call Meeting to Order—The Chairperson called the regular meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call — Present: Commission Chair Jamie Bariekman; Commissioner Susan Guerrero; Commissioner Danielle Skeeters-Lindsey; Guest Chief Jan Alvord, Mason County Sheriff's Department 3. Minutes: December 20, 2012 minutes were presented for approval 3.1 Chief Alvord requested an amendment to clarify that the Records Clerk 1 & 2 position descriptions where changed to reflect the combined duties of the new A-0 position of Records Specialist. Commissioners Lindsey/Bariekman moved and 4- seconded to amend the minutes. Motion carried unanimously. B-aye; L-aye; G-aye 3.2 Commissioner Guerrero requested that additional signature lines be included in the approval of the minutes so that all Commissioners can sign to approve. Commissioners Guerrero/Lindsey moved and seconded to include signature lines for all commissioners. Motion carried unanimously. B-aye; L-aye; G-aye 4. Action Agenda 4.1 Action Item proposed for County Commission to provide applications and receive recommendations of CS appointments. Commissioners Bariekman/Lindsey moved and seconded that this is unnecessary at this time and that the action item be denied. Motion carried unanimously. B-aye; L-aye; G-aye 5. Organizational Business 5.1 Old Business 4.1.1 Set meeting dates for 2013 shall remain 4:00 p.m. 415 N 6th Street, Bldg 8, Shelton WA 98584 on the third Thursday of each month. It was suggested that the Civil Service Commission reintroduce itself to Public Health Director Vicki Kirkpatrick to establish good communication as we use the facilities for open public meetings. 4.1.2 Sign and Present Certificate to Cathi Bailey Bright. All Commissioners signed the certificate. Frmr. Commissioner Bright was not in attendance and will be contacted by the Chief Examiner to receive her certificate of appreciation for her service on the Commission. 5.2 New Business 5.2.1 Welcome Susan Guerrero—Commissioner appointed by the Mason County Commissioners December 2012. 5.2.2 Select Chair for 2013 Commission—Commissioners Guerrero/Lindsey moved and seconded the nomination and appointment of Commissioner Jamie Bariekman as the new Chairman of the Mason County Civil Service Commission. Motion carried by quorum. L-aye; G-aye Accepted by Commissioner Bariekman 5.2.3 Commissioners goals for 2013 were identified as: A. Building Communication with the MA CO Commission B. Requesting an increase in the Civil Service Commission Budget C. Using Robert's Rules of Order to conduct meetings and D. Creating a Civil Service Manual that includes roles and responsibilities defined for The Mason County Civil Service Commission, MC CS Commissioners and Chairman and the MC CS Chief Examiner 6. Sheriffs Office 6.1 Civil Service Rules Changes: updated and forwarded 6.2 Records Specialist Position name Change: updated and forwarded CWA 6.3 Records Specialist hiring update: procedure clarification 0 6.3.1 Timeline for hiring process from Chief Jan presented 6.3.2 Cost of using electronic testing will not be used if cost prohibitive A 6.4 Request for Corrections Sgt recruitment in house from Chief Haugen �4e ��`r 6.5 Two applications received from Chief Jan -one for Records Specialist extra help and one for Sheriff's Deputy Lateral Entry 7. Other Business 7.1 2. Roberts Rules Of Order training session to be scheduled 8. Board's Reports and Calendar 8.1 CE reporting of time and mileage expenses 9.
