Dear Otto:
At y e u tigated the concrete retaining walls located at
the Stuart A. Schingol residence, Lot 11, Block 2, Stetson Beach, Buil
ding emit o.
The walls were placed on Saturday, July- 11, 1981, and-were nine days old -
as of-nW investigation The' appearance of the'-walls' was-very--bad;with=
numerous rock pockets and pour lines evident. There was also evidence
that an insufficient amount of form ties was used, or that the forms were
not shored up properly. Most of the forms had bulged at the joints,
causing an uneven wall surface, as well as a loss of the surface matrix.
The-concrete-was-tested-for=compressive-strength--using-a -Schmidt Hamner,
A.S.T.M. Standard Test Method C-805-79. The approximate strength of the
in situ- concrete was 2000 psi. The footing-concrete, whi ch was placed
approximately one week earlier, was also tested and found to be approxi-
mately 2500 psi.
Based on these test data and .physical observation, there is nothing
unusual or wrong with the concrete per se. The honeycombing and rock
pockets are of a cosmetic nature, and the result of, improper placement
technique.
