jb 22 April 2009 Mason Coady Community Development "aft P.O.B"279 " ,.. Shahan,WA 98584 APR 2 7 2009 RE: Varntnce#vAR2008-0013 ENVIRONMENTAL del Mew HEALTH Camal Hide-a-way Lane Parcel#32330-51-06007 ATTN:Mason County Planning Department As we are not able to attend the above referax.ed herring on 5112/2009,Please accept this letter as our statanaat of cowern relating to the development of the above refa+encod property We request the County(Flaming and/or Environment Health Departmentsnot allow, nor Permit any excavation or distubamce of the hillside/slope untnatliately west of the proposed building SO We own a residence three houses to the south of the proposed building site and said slope is within 75 feet of our house., We are gr>tvely concerned that aver the slightcst vegetation disturbance or amminor mavatim t awhing to access the desig, nated reserve draiefield at the top of the slope would compromise the"slide"stability of this slops Any significant slide of this slope would endanger our home as well as the two homes immediacy south of the proposed building site. Pursuant to my conversation with Cindy Waitte(Fa vironmartal Health Offices a permit for the proposed TRD septic system includes the aforementioned reserve field located at the top of the referm cal slope and is a necessary prerequisite for the permit to be issued. Therefore, the County must anticipate-Mr.McCnaws'fixture use of this field and needs to stipulate how this field is to be accessed. I believe now is the time to stipulate the requirement of a geotech evaluation of the slope for excavation, trenching and vgFta ion"urbamx before a permit can be issued for use of the reserve area as a drainfield. Furthermore,I would submit the need for a geotech evaluation pertaining ss these to the slope stability using the reserve area as a drainfield peeW the currant g OO&study does not concerns. We feel this is of even greater concern in light of the increasingly severe slide activity in surrounding areas over the last few years. In closing,we ask Mason County to consider the devaluation of the neig properties should a slide occur on Ws slope as a result of any excavation activity outlined above. Again,we ask that the County strictly forbid any excavation or vegetation disturbance of the slope in question in processing Mr.McGraw's request for permits. The current gootech study addresses slope stability to the eoda t of the construction of the proposed balsa and TRO septic system, but does not(in our opinion)address slope stability with regard to excavation and/or other activity necessary to access the reserve field for future use. Apparently these folks talked to people In planning but he wasn't sure who. >>>Charles Butros 6/29/2009 9:57 AM>>> Barbara, I met with Don Clotfelter of DOT last week and he brought up that DOT had met with your staff regarding clearing the gravel and debris under several bridges on Highway 101.In my discussion with Don,I suggested clearing a potion of the channel to allow for the water flow to move the gravel to the canal. It appears that they will try that approach. Chariie >>>"Clotfelter,Don"<ClotfeQOwsdot.wa.aov>6/26/2009 9:11 AM>>> The DOT payment is in today's mail to you. I saw photo's of the completed Cole Road project. So well done/a huge improvement. We have(re-met)in the field on US 101 at Holiday Beach, the two creeks; Miller and Sund,I told you about. We are stepping back and going into it as a smaller project. We will do as our Hyd. Engineer(and you)suggest We will excavate in mid channel and not dig so deep. We will try to turn the creek beds into straws that allow the gravels to flow out and not fail into a large and deep excavated holes. We will try to keep the hyd.energy in place and push the gravels out and away. (Try anyway) Don Clotfelter rkaw Y I r 7T-.q 4 lr
