Project Description: To determine if proposed addition will require a Shoreline
Variance
Dear Applicant:
As part of this department's review of your permit application, a Shoreline Inspection (SPI) was
performed on your property. Below you will find comments made regarding the proposed
development and its critical values.
In some cases, setbacks for development from shorelines, steep slopes, streams, and wetlands
must be included in your specific proposal; these setbacks are included as part of the comments
listed below.
This information is based on County and State regulations as they exist to date. These regulations
may change and may affect the requirements for development of the subject property.
Please contact me at(360)427-9670, ext. if you have questions.
Sincerely,

Shoreline Inspection
9/19/01 Case No.: SP12001-00121
Comments: A field inspection of the subject property was conducted on
9/18/01 to determine if a variance would be necessary for the
proposed addition.
The current home is definable as existing, non-conforming due to
its encroachment into the required sideyard setback. Expansion
that increases the nonconformity is not permitted. However, no
portion of the proposed expansion will encroach into any of the
existing setbacks. The footprint will be expanded landward of all
required shoreline setbacks. Such construction is consistent with
the policies of the Mason County Shoreline Master Program
(SMP) and will not require a variance.
If you have any questions or require clarification on this
determination, please contact me.
