There is no comment period for this DNS.

RE: Wesley Naeseth Dock construction project 92-56
Dear Mr. Yando:
The Department of Wildlife has several comments on this project.
1 . This project will require a Hydraulic Project Approval prior
to starting work.
2 . Creosote and pent achlorophenol should never be used as a
preservative on wood which will be in contact with the water.
Both these chemicals are classifies by the EPA as restricted
use pesticides. Both are oncogenic both leach out of the wood
after treatment and during use.
3 . It is preferable from a biological standpoint to use untreated
wood for construction projects with freshwater systems. If
the dock is not to support any other structure untreated wood
should be adequate both in strength and life span. If treated
wood is to be used, the following are recommended
preservatives . ammoniacal copper zinc arsenate (ACZA,
chromated copper arsenate (CCA) , copper naphthenate, or
copper-8-quinolinolate. These chemical are both less toxic
and more stable then creosote or pentachlorophenol .
4. All treated wood should be commercially pressure treated and
completely dry prior to placement in water.
5 . If concrete footing or supports are to be used they should be
poured and cured on dry land and then placed in the water.
