KCM July 27, 1992 Department of General Services Mason County Mason County Building 111 JUL 2 81992 425 W. Cedar P.O.Box 186 Shelton, WA 98584 avlcf-s Subject: Building and Excavation Permits for Salmon Enhancement Facilities at Lilliwaup, Washington The non-profit organization Long Live the Kings has received a parcel of Property in trust from William G. Reed to build a small salmon hatchery. The Purpose of this facility is to restore wild Salmon populations in Hood Canal and on the Olympic Peninsula. Water will be diverted from.Beardsley Creek, a tributary.to Lilliwaup Creek, to the hatchery site. Permits for use of the water have been obtained from the Washington State D.O.E. and the hydraulic permit to build the diversion structure has been obtained from the Departments of Fisheries and Wildlife. A portion of the site where the fish tanks will be located is a disturbed wetland. The area of wetland that will be impacted is less than one (1) acre and the U. S. Corps of Engineers is issuing a Nationwide Permit for the filling of the wetland area. The hatchery building will have crew quarters for one (1) permanent employee and one (1) part time employee. The sanitary sewer will be diverted by a lift station to a septic tank and drainfield in the area shown on the site plan. Soil tests (perk rates) are being completed at this time. If the location will not perk, then the property owner(Mr. Reed) has agreed to allow the existing septic system to be used for this new waste stream. The existing on site potable water system will be used for the crew quarters. Discharge from the hatchery's fish facilities rearing will be through an effluent pond. The pond system will provide 2 hours of retention prior to being returned to the Lilliwaup system. Maximum poundage of fish on site at any given time will be less than 10,000 pounds. 1917 First Avenue,Seattle,Washington 98101-1027 (206)443-5300 Fax(206)443-5372 DqwMww of General Services My 27,1992 Page 2 The attached drawings and-data:.should provide the details needed to approve our building permit request.
