To undertake the following development:
Seven creosote piling will be permanently removed from the intertidal beach at sites on the north
side of the inlet, the middle of the inlet and the south shore (see attached drawing). Three 10"
galvanized steel pile will be placed at the site of existing FLUPSY. Two-8" galvanized steel pile
will be placed near existing hatchery. One 8" pile will be placed on DNR lease site at end of
existing dock.
Within Little Skookum Inlet and/or its associated wetlands is exempt from the requirement of substantial development
because the development is categorized under WAC 173-27-040(2)as being category
B-normal maintenance

The waters and shellfish beds involved all comprise active shellfish farm beds in production since 1885.The piles are an integral part
of the business operation There are curer*seven(7)driven creosote piles on the property.There are also a Floating Upwelling
System(FLUPSY), seven(7)sink floats,two(2)floating dock sections connected to land by a over water walkway and ramp,and six
(6)smaN craft.
The property is highly productive and the biodiversity is the same or improved,as determined by actual independent surveys,over what
it was in 1977 when we acquired the property.This is due to our development of advanced shellfish production technology and the
exercise of best management practices over the last 31 years.

water ward of the ordinary high water mark or fine,including types of equipment to be used. If applying for a shoreline permit,
describe 11 work within and beyond 200 feet of the ordinary high water mark. If you have provided attached materials to
describe your project,you still must summarize the proposed work here. Attach a separate sheet if additional space is needed.
Remove(using a licensed marine contractor,(Kapert's Water Front Construction(KWFC))seven(7)creosote wood piling and replace
6 with galvanized steel ping(See attached plan).The work would be performed in mid August 2008 using the construction services
provided by KWFC.(see attached bid).Disposal of old piling will be responsloifityr of Little Skookum Shellfish Growers LLC.

on the south side of the inlet roar the existing hatchery building where the boat fift is.One(1)8'galvanized steel pile will be placed on
the DNR lease site at the end of our existing dock structure on the south side of the inlet(Note:Our DNR tease agent has been
mforred and requires no further action on their part for this project.)

7b. Describe the purpose of the proposed work and why you want or need to perform it at the site. Please explain any specific
needs that have influenced the design.
The creosote pikhg is old(--30 years) and worn.Pifing supports ow Floating Upwelfing System(FLUPSIE),overhead boat lift
(south side of inlet),and the windward end of our work floats and docks in Lithe Skookum Inlet.Periodic replacement,as
appropriate,will prevent pile failure and subsequent environmental damage.
Unused piles surplus to our needs are being permanently removed. Removal of old of creosote piling also helps attain the
goal of obtaining cleaner waters for Puget Sound.

7c. Describe the potential impacts to characteristic uses of the water body. These uses may include fish and aquatic life,water quality,
water supply,recreation and aesthetics- y Proposed
actions 10 avoid,minimize,and mitigate detrimental impacts and
provide proper protection of fish and aquatic life. Identify which guidance documents you have used. Attach a separate sheet

The current and historical use of the site for the last 125 years is and has been shellfish aquacutiure.The piles are necessary
for the existing operation to continue and grow. Replacing creosote piling with galvanized steel will provide an environmental
benefit to the water and marine life.
LSSG also maintains an ongoing 32 year research program in shellfish aquacullure research on this site and monitors the
mo lluskan Bivalve populations,biodiversity and biomass at{east annually as well as routine measurement of water quality
parameters to ensure that all recognized best management practices(BMP's)are met or exceeded.
All pile placement work will be performed by the licensed contractor so as to minimze and mitigate any detrimental impacts on
the water quality and or marine life and will be perkirmed during the designated construction window for Little Skookum Inlet
so as to minimize impacts to fish migration.
