I need to preface my comments by reiterating our concern for fire protection for your facility due tothe difficult access and the lack of any early warning or fire suppression system in the building. The priorities we are targeting are designed to upgrade the current building to achieve some additional fire protection advantage. AREA SEPARATION Maintain a 2-hour area separation, including doors, between the warehouse and shop/office area. Maintain a 1-hour separation between the office and main shop area. Provide a 1-hour protection for the corridor with 20 minute rated doors from the rooms exiting into the corridor. The door between the office area and the corridor should be 1-hour rated and self-closing. EXIT SIGNS/EMERGENCY LIGHTS Provide lighted exit signs and emergency lights as noted on the plans. Combination exit signs/battery back-up emergency lights are available. These systems should be on a separate, dedicated electrical circuit. FIRE EXTINGUISHERS Provide fire extinguishers as noted on plants. OTHER ISSUES A monitored fire alarm system would provide the early warning that is critical to adequate fire protection for your facility. This should be a priority in the near future. The single hydrant serving your building may not be on a main size sufficient to provide usable fire flow for your facility. You should confirm the main size with the installer and a flow test should be conducted. We appreciate the opportunity to visit your building.
