RE:Water System Approval SEATTLE (206)464-6968
Dear Sir or Madam:
A recent application for a building permit triggered a water adequacy review for your property at
Grapeview Loop Road and Eckert Road.Typically,Mason County Environmental Health would
require full system approval prior to allowing the permit to commence. However, the County is
willing to work with your department to resolve these issues without delaying your current
building permit.
In July of 2000,you applied for public water system approval. In February of 2001,you applied
for a waiver of several group B water system requirements.A copy of that waiver application is
enclosed. The County placed the waiver application on hold awaiting a property ownership
clarification.I received a phone call from Patty Graeber on December 2,2003.Ms.Graeber
indicated that the property ownership issues had been resolved and that the boundary line
adjustment could be found at Auditor's file
number 1777118.The County has reviewed the adjustment and finds it adequate.
On September 21,2000,Stephanie Kenny(the former Mason County Drinking Water Program
Coordinator)sent a letter to the Mason County Fire District#3 outlining those items required
prior to approval of the water system.I have reviewed the file and most of the items requested
have been addressed. However, the following items are still required prior to system approval:
❑ A variance for site approval. This may be accomplished with your waiver application.
❑ A recorded copy of a Notice to Future Property Owners. An example is attached.
❑ A signed owner's statement of responsibility and statement of accuracy. These can be found
on pages 7 and 8 of part B of your water system application.
❑ An SMA agreement is required if your system has connected to the second building.
In addition, your application for waiver/variance is incomplete.Your justification must include
well construction details i.e. is the well sealed? Are there significant confining layers? If you do
not have access to your own well log,the County will accept three well logs from wells in the
immediate area of your property.Your justification may address geological or hydrological data.
If the drainfield is downgradient of the well, this would be considered a mitigating factor.Your
Engineer should be able to assist you with these requirements.
If you have any questions or require assistance,do not hesitate to contact me at the number
below.
Sincerely,
