Failure to Submit Routine Coliform Sample(s) -July 1999
Dear Paul Jensen:
All Group A water system purveyors are required to have their drinking water routinely analyzed for the presence of
coliform bacteria (WAC 246-290-300).
Our records indicate that you did not submit the required number of routine sample(s) for the month of July.
Therefore, this water system is in violation of monitoring regulations. According to WAC 246-290-330, you are
required to notify your water system users of the failure to monitor. It is not possible to make up a missed sample,
however, it is important that the required coliform monitoring frequency be followed immediately (WAC 246-290-
300).
If you have evidence that a routine samole(s)was submitted for the referenced month, please send a copy of each
analysis to me at the above address analysis to me at the above address alonawith a note or copy this lettera note or copy of this letter. You may send it by mail to the address
above or by fax at (360) 664-8058. The sample results will be credited to your water system, and the enforcement
record corrected, if appropriate. In order to receive monitoring credit, the sample must have been collected in the
month of July. Please note that samples marked "unsuitable" do not satisfy monitoring requirements; one routine
replacement sample must be taken for each unsuitable sample within the same month.
The Department may initiate enforcement action against you if violations continue. If your system continues to have
violations and reaches significant non-complier (SNC) status, you may be required to retain a certified operator, to
be in charge of the daily operation of your water system, if you do not already have one. The certified operator will
be required as long as the system exists. A system reaches SNC status if it has six or more monitoring, four or
more MCL and/or major repeat or six or more combined violations during a twelve month period.
