Failure to Submit Routine Coliform Samples—November 1999
Dear Stan Catron: '
All Group A water system purveyors are required to have their drinking water routinely analyzed for the presence of
coliform bacteria (WAC 246-290-300).
Our records indicate that you did not submit the required number of routine samples for the month of November.
Therefore, this water system is in violation of the monitoring regulations. According to WAC 246-290-330, you are
required to notify your water system users of the failure to monitor. It is not possible to make up missed samples,
however, it is important that the required coliform monitoring frequency be followed immediately (WAC 246-290-
300). A summary of the coliform monitoring frequency is enclosed.
If you have evidence that routine sample(s) were submitted for the referenced month, please send a copy of each
analysis to the above address along with a note or copy of this letter. You may send it by mail to the address above
or by fax at (360) 664-8058. The sample results will be credited to your water system, and the enforcement record
corrected, if appropriate. In order to receive monitoring credit, the sample must have been collected in the violation
month. Please note that samples marked "unsuitable" do not satisfy monitoring requirements; one routine
replacement sample must be taken for each unsuitable sample within the same month.
The Department may initiate enforcement action against you if violations continue. If your system continues to have
violations you may be required to retain a certified operator. The certified operator will be required as long as the
system exists.
