Reference your email of April 25, 2000,
The earthwork quantity for the Johnson car wash was computer calculated. Only the summary volumes
have been printed out and I am enclosing a copy of the summary printed from a section of the calculation
sheet for the site plan. I am also sending you, by mail, a blueprint of the site plan with grids and quantities
for your files.
The computer—calculated quantities are based on two different methods: the grid method and the average
end area method. They yield slightly different quantities. We elected to use the quantity from the end area
method.
In both cases,the quantities are based on a TIN surface of the grounds before development and a TIN
surface for the proposed surface. The quantity is based on the difference between the two surfaces. The
grid method grids the site into 25' x 25'squares and figure the volume of the earth column in each square.
The earth work volume is the summary of the columns in all the squares. The average end area method is
based on cross—sections through the site, one every 50 feet The end area is figured at each section_ The
average end area between two successive sections is multiplied by the distance and a volume is produced.
The sum of the volume of the segments between the sections yields the total earthwork volume.
