HomeMy WebLinkAboutRockery Wall - BLD Engineering / Geo-tech Reports ROCKERY WALL NOTES: 1. Rockery walls shall be constructed within the"Standard Rock Wall Construction Guidelines"of the Associated Rockery Contractors. 2. All finished slopes must be 2:1 or flatter inclination. 3. Drainage rock and structural fill to be—4"to+2"quarry spalls. 4. Drainage system from rockery wall to be connected to on-site storm drainage system. 5. For fill placement specifications, refer to the geotechnical report prepared by Associated Earth Sciences, dated January 23, 1990. 6. If unacceptable soil conditions are encountered during excavation of the rockery walls, the engineer should be contacted before proceeding with construction of rockery wall. 7. Stability of excavated slopes are the responsibility of the contractor during construction of the rockery walls. i i i . l --- _.. '„ ._. rrMrltlillywrnllOmu.■ii+9.IliYrirr`"... This packet includes the design calculations, rockery plan and profiles . The calculations were performed on the tallest portion of the wall . Several points along the height of the rockery wall were also checked for overturning stability. The following is our results : At Elevation = 116. 5' (2. 5' from top of wall) Overturning F.O.S . = 10 .2 At Elevation = 112' (7' from top of wall) Overturning F.O.S . = 2 . 38 At Elevation = 107' (bottom of wall) Sliding F.O.S . = 1 . 5 Overturning F.O.S . = 1 . 6 Bearing Capacity F.O.S . = 1 .2 The above results firmly show that the rockery wall is in fact stable in overturning, sliding and bearing. Sliding FOS was not calculated for the top two points due to the nature of rockery wall construction. The diagrams included in the calculations are for stability analysis only. The actual geometry of the rock wall will vary dependent on rock placement. This latitude given to the contractor will allow for better placement of rock segments in the wall . For construction of the rockery wall, contractors should utilize "Standard Rock Wall Construction Guidelines" by the Associated Rockery Contractors . This guideline is also included in the design packet for your information. This document fully outlines the construction process on rockery walls . To address the question of excavation slope behind the rockery wall, it should be noted that this slope is the responsibility of the contractor. The slope angle is based on the soil conditions at the time of excavation and should be evaluated as conditions change. The following is included in the submittal package: 1) Calculations and diagrams of the rockery wall . 2) ARC Rockery Guidelines 3) Additional Rockery Construction Notes 4) This letter of submittal If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact our office at your convenience.
