Seismic bracing connected to light structural members should be approved by structural engineer. 5 Details should be provided to show how vertical and lateral sway braces are connected to the structure and the type and size of connection device. In accordance with U.B.C. 9-1 (NFPA 13 , 1991) both lateral and longitudinal sway braces shall be sized and fastened to the structure such that the horizontal loads assigned to the braces in Table 4-5.4.3.5.1(a)do not exceed the allowable loads on the braces as shown in Table 4-5.4.3.5.1(b)and the allowable loads on fasteners as shown in Table 4-5.4.3.5.1(c). The structural component shall be capable of carrying the added applied loads. Calculations of the loads for sizing, and details of the sway bracing are required to be included in the submittal per U.B.C. 9-1 6-1.1.1 (mm). In accordance with NFPA 13 (1991)7-2.1 verification should be made that the water flow test utilized for these hydraulic calculations has taken into account seasonal fluctuations and peak demands that could adversely affect the system performance. The flow test utilized in these hydraulic calculations is a static pressure of 52 PSI with 740 gallons flowing at 25 PSI. The date that this flow test was taken is not noted on the plans as is required by NFPA 13 (1991). The supporting hydraulic calculations have left an approximate 4 PSI safety margin below the water flow test data. Verification should be made with the Mason County Fire Marshal that a greater safety margin should not be utilized to insure system performance during periods of low water and high usage. In accordance with NFPA 24 the galvanized piping supplying the Fire Department Connection should be coated and wrapped after field assembly. Our headquarters accounting department in Whittier, California will send you an invoice for this plan reviewing service based on 2 hours of professional time ($150).
