Subject: Concerns on Top Plate Anchor Bolts
Dear Mr. Hukill:
I have reviewed the comments from the Mason County Inspector regarding the spacing for the
top plate anchor bolts for the well house for Well No. 4.
The building is 16' x 20'. The anchor bolts are spaced from 2' to 4' apart, depending on specific
block locations. There are seven anchors along the long side and five along the short side,
including the interior wall. Additionally, the end anchor bolts are either 4 inches or 8 inches
from the end of the plate, depending on the direction the plate is laid. The top plate is properly
secured structurally to the wall.
The Simpson ties used to connect the upper and lower plates at butt joints provides a good bond
to keep the plates together. The tie is a gusset plate with several integral spikes that when
pounded into the plate as has been done, tightly holds the plates together. This is the same
system used by roof truss companies in constructing prefabricated trusses such as used on this
well house.
If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely Yours,
R
