This time it is for the same purpose. The origional proposal called for a new Inn to be built on the tide- lands in front of the existing Inn requiring an Army Engineer permit. We had approval of all the regulatory agencies necessary for the issuance of the permit. You approved and I paid for a Mason County Building Permit which has been kept current. We were prepared to build. Governor Dan Evans then personally objected to the project and had the previously granted State approval withdrawn from the Army Engineers. Hearings were held. The objectors at the hearings and elsewhere repeatedly stated that the idea for a new Inn was a good one provided it was not built on the tidelands, and that the structure be more nonconventional in its appearance. I believe both of the objections have been remedied. The new Inn will he built in the same general location of the existing Inn, which is off the tidelands. We have engaged a different architectural and engineering firm who have a reputation for building artistically beautiful and prize winning buildings. Prints of their most recent schematics for Alderbrook are attached. W A S H I N G T 0 N ' S F I N E S T R E S 0 R T Y E A R R O U N D r. Everything else originally proposed as far as size, (300 rooms) capacities, etc. remain the same. The Alderbrook expansion project started long ago; long before the Shoreline Management legislation was thought of, is not subject to the Act, however we of Alderbrook Inn wish to comply with any and all regulations, to the end that all public interests are served. Therefore we herewith apply, through the newly proposed procedures, for a clearance so that Alderbrook Inn expansion can proceed without controversy, and instead have support from all sources. Alderbrook must rebuild its old Inn If it is to continue as "Washingtons Finest Resort". It is a betterment to the community, the State, and the public. Therefore Alderbrook deserves all possible support. If we get it, we will try again to put it all together. We ask your concurrance. Cor ly, Wesley M. ohn President, Alderbrook Development Co. , Inc. It is convincingly obvious, thanks to you and many others, that the local community wants the project and that the opposition is coming from outsiders. As long as we have local support we will continue to struggle. Thank you. C ordial , 16 0 Wesle M. Johnson, President WMJ:hb cc: ,.
