SIMULTANEOUS FILING OF
Approved Shoreline Substantial Development Permit (SDP)
Approved Variance Permit(VAR)
Dear Mr. Carlson:
On December 13, 2017, the Department of Ecology received the Mason County decisions on
your permit to construct a new 165-foot long community dock.
Your approved SDP and VAR have been filed with Ecology.
By law, Ecology must review SDP and VARs for compliance with:
• The Shoreline Management Act(Chapter 90.58 RCW)
• Ecology's SDP approval criteria(Chapter 173-27-150 WAC)
• Ecology's VAR approval criteria(Chapter 173-27-170 WAC)
• The Mason County Local Shoreline Master Program.
Local governments, after reviewing SDPs for compliance, are required to submit them to
Ecology. Your approved SDP has been received by Ecology.
After reviewing VARs for compliance, Ecology must decide whether to approve, approve with
conditions, or disapprove them.
Our Decision on your VAR:
Ecology approves your VAR, provided your project complies with the conditions required by
Mason County
Please note, however, that other federal, state, and local permits may be required in
addition to these shoreline permits.
