LODGING CONCERN OVER THE STATE OF WASHINGTON
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S ACTION ON SR 3
WHEREAS, State Route 3 is a vital regional transportation Route for the
Washington States Transportation System; and
WHEREAS, the States Transportation System is a key element in the overall
economic stability of the state; and
WHEREAS, a portion of State Route 3, known locally as the 'S' curves, between the
Town site of Allyn and the Townsite of Belfair, all in Mason County, has a history of failing
due the sliding; and
WHEREAS,the frequency of such geological failure has progressively increased; and
WHEREAS, the sliding conditions are considered a hazard to the traveling public;
and
WHEREAS, the County Commissioners recognize the importance of SR 3 as a vital
regional transportation route and the only viable land route to the Kitsap Peninsula.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mason County Board of
Commissioners go on record as ordering this mandate, that the Washington State
Department of Transportation immediately proceed to resolve the slide conditions and
improve SR 3 through the 'S' curves.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the solution be permanent.
