Cushman Lake Level RESOLUTION O. 4 3-9 IL CUSHMAN LAKE LEVEL WHEREAS, Lake Cushman is an important residential and recreational area within Mason County; and WHEREAS, Lake Cushman has been filled to a level of 738 feet for over 50 years; and WHEREAS, the 738 feet level is imperative for recreational use at the State Parks, private docks, beaches and swimming areas; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of National Parks has identified an 11.06 acre section of their park which has been covered by lake water; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of National Parks is preserving recovery of said 11.06 acres for non-flooded Elk habitat; and WHEREAS, this 11.06 acres is the only area within the lake which serves as habitat for fingerling fish protection to allow for growth of these to adult size; and WHEREAS, lower levels may be necessary for emergency flood control measures within the watershed; and WHEREAS, the 738 feet lake level is imperative for stable property values to provide essential and mandated County services; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of National Parks is considering a negotiated land exchange within park boundaries; and WHEREAS, Mason County is concerned about the possibility of loss of management of the 11.06 acres after a land exchange because this land will still be within the park boundaries. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Mason County Commissioners go on record supporting continuation of a 738 feet lake level except when emergency flood control measures are necessary; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that measures be taken to assure that management authority of said 11.06 acres remain within operation license for Lake Cushman Dam.
