Form the Criminal Justice Working Team RESOLUTION NO. 62A-92 WHEREAS, Mason County supports the Criminal Justice Working Team which was organized to reduce the demands on, and respond to the needs of the criminal justice system. WHEREAS, the Board of Mason County Commissioners has entered into a memorandum of agreement with several jurisdictions within Mason County to form the Criminal Justice Working Team (EXHIBIT A); WHEREAS, RCW 72.09.300 authorizes the establishment of community corrections boards and community corrections plans to encourage the most efficient use of state and local resources; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Criminal Justice Working Team be recognized as Mason County's Community Corrections Board as authorized by RCW 72.09.300. Zoren EXHIBIT A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING We the undersigned acknowledge that the Criminal Justice arena affects and is affected by many jurisdictions within and outside the County. We also recognize that there is a need for an inter-jurisdictional forum to plan for and affect change in the Criminal Justice area. We are committed to developing knowledge and working toward consensual decision-making to reduce demands on and respond to the needs of the criminal justice system. In order to realize this commitment, we agree to formally recognize the Criminal Justice Work Team as a visionary and policy catalyst, and agree to support the four primary goals of the Working Team. 1. Design, develop, coordinate and implement a Master Plan for Criminal Justice, pursuant to RCW 72.09.300. 2. Continue ongoing collaborative problem solving efforts between and among all jurisdictions involved with the Criminal Justice System. 3. Involve the entire community in the problem solving process, e.g. , community policing and/or community corrections, as well as other strategies which instill a sense of public involvement, ownership, and responsibility. 4. Maximize the communication network between all involved jurisdictions, citizens and interest groups. To implement the above goals, the Mason County Criminal Justice Task Force is asked to: 1) act in an advisory capacity; 2) function as a problem solving task force, and 3) serve as a liaison to citizens. Three key focus areas are: Alternatives&. - Alternatives to Incarceration/Re-entry into the Community - Prevention/Early Interventions - Community-based Criminal Justice Facilities The Mason County Criminal Justice Work Team is asked to present its recommendations for our considerations and actions.
