MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
We the undersigned acknowledge that the Criminal Justice arena affects and is
affected by many jurisdictions within and outside the County. We also
recognize that there is a need for an inter-jurisdictional forum to plan for
and affect change in the Criminal Justice area. We are committed to
developing knowledge and working toward consensual decision-making to reduce
demands on and respond to the needs of the criminal justice system.
In order to realize this commitment, we agree to formally recognize the
Criminal Justice Work Team as a visionary and policy catalyst, and agree to
support the four primary goals of the Working Team.
1. Design, develop, coordinate and implement a Master Plan for
Criminal Justice, pursuant to RCW 72.09.300.
2. Continue ongoing collaborative problem solving efforts between
and among all jurisdictions involved with the Criminal Justice
System.
3. Involve the entire community in the problem solving process,
e.g. , community policing and/or community corrections, as well
as other strategies which instill a sense of public
involvement, ownership, and responsibility.
4. Maximize the communication network between all involved
jurisdictions, citizens and interest groups.
To implement the above goals, the Mason County Criminal Justice Task Force is
asked to:
1) act in an advisory capacity;
2) function as a problem solving task force, and
3) serve as a liaison to citizens.
Three key focus areas are:
Alternatives&.
- Alternatives to Incarceration/Re-entry into the Community
- Prevention/Early Interventions
- Community-based Criminal Justice Facilities
The Mason County Criminal Justice Work Team is asked to present its
recommendations for our considerations and actions.
