WHEREAS, members of the Board of Directors of the Economic Development
Council of Mason County have been designated by the Mason County Commissioners
as the Overall Economic Development Plan (OEDP) Committee for Mason County,
Washington; and
WHEREAS, the OEDP Committee has hosted a series of public meetings and
solicited input from throughout Mason County concerning possible infrastructure
improvements to enhance economic sustainability; and
WHEREAS, President Clinton's Economic Adjustment Initiative for the Pacific
Northwest and Northern California is soliciting eligible projects for funding; and
WHEREAS, eligibility for funding must be demonstrated by a prioritization of
projects; and
WHEREAS, the OEDP Committee has recommended a list of projects:
First Priority. Improve and expand the City of Shelton's sewer system to; a)
Decrease Inflow, Infiltration and related system weaknesses; b) Decrease the likelihood
of negative impacts to water quality of Oakland Bay now or in the future; c) fully consider
land application as an alternative to or addition to the present outfall into Oakland Bay;
and d) expand to Sanderson Field including Mason County Fairgrounds, the Washington
State Patrol Academy and Washington Corrections Center.
Second Priority. Extend, widen and strengthen the runway at Sanderson Field
to accommodate the repair and modification of military and commercial aircraft.
Third Priority. Secure Federal dollars to locate the Pacific Northwest Wood
Products Manufacturing Technology Center in Mason County.
NOW , THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board of Mason County
Commissioners does hereby amend the OEDP for Mason County to include these
priorities and request that the amended document be forwarded to the Region 10 office
of the Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce and the
Office of Forestry and Economic Development in Portland, Oregon.
