AN ORDINANCE TO ALLOW MASON COUNTY RESERVE OFFICERS TO
JOIN THE VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTERS' RELIEF AND PENSION ACT
(RCW 41.24)
WHEREAS, the State of Washington passed Substitute House Bill 1453 allowing
reserve officers to join the Volunteer Officers Fire Fighters' Relief and Pension Act; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Mason County Sheriff's Department to
participate in the Pension Act;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Mason County Commissioners that
the Mason County Sheriff's Department may allow a maximum of fifteen (15) reserve officers
to participate in the Volunteer Fire Fighters' and Relief Act.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that Mason County allows officers to both buy back
credit for years of service and make pension payments for prior years of service. Mason
County will not make pension payments for prior years of service.
