A RESOLUTION:
Approving a partially updated Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Element of the Mason County Parks
Comprehensive plan to establish eligibility to Washington State Interagency for Outdoor Recreation (IAC).
WHEREAS, the purpose of this plan is to guide Mason County in its commitment to provide a diverse, multi-
faceted system of parks and recreation areas and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan no longer adequately addresses the needs for parks
and recreation areas and facilities; and
WHEREAS, The Mason County Board of Commissioners recognizes that parks and recreation areas are
necessary for the well-being of the community; and
WHEREAS, the Mason County Parks and Recreation Element of the Mason County Comprehensive Plan
provides the necessary guidelines for the provisions of parks and recreation areas and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Mason County participated in the development of the plan through a Parks and
Recreation Survey and public hearings to analyze citizen demands and needs; and
WHEREAS, technical data, inventories, and analysis were done to determine the condition of existing parks and
recreation areas; and
WHEREAS, the Department of General Services has recommended approval of the updated plan as an interim
plan until the Mason County Planning Commission can review and approve an amended version of the County
Comprehensive Plan which would include 1996 public survey results, and updated analysis of demand and need,
and a revised action plan for 1997.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Mason County Commissioners hereby update
the Mason County Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan on an interim basis as follows:
The Plan is updated and shall be in full force, and effective this date.
