2.1. Position Tracking - 16 vacant funded positions: Community Service
Officer-Jail Setting-1; Corrections Deputy-6; Deputy Sheriff-5;
Evidence Technician-1; and Support Specialist-3
2.2. Notice of Leave of Absence for Deputy Joshua Phillips from July 17,
2023 through July 17, 2024.
2.3. Approval of hiring of a person for more than four (4) months to fill
temporary vacancy, due to leave of absence. Action

Meeting Minutes
February 16, 2023
The regular meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairperson Sue Ickes.
Attendance: Sue Ickes, Chair, William Kendrick, Vice-Chair; and Mark Nault,
Commissioner
Others: Tami Beyer, and Becky Rogers
Business:
1. Selection of 2023 Chair & Vice-Chair
Commission Member Nault nominated Sue Ickes for Chair.
Cmmrs. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to elect Sue Ickes as Chair for 2023. Motion carried
unanimously.
Commission Member Kendrick nominated Bill Kendrick for Vice-Chair.
Cmmrs. Nault/Ickes moved and seconded to elect Bill Kendrick as Vice-Chair for 2023. Motion carried
unanimously.
2. Approval of Minutes: January 19, 2023, regular meeting minutes.
Cmmrs. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to approve the January 19, 2023, meeting minutes.
Motion carried unanimously.
3. Chief Examiner Update
3.1. Position Tracking - 14 vacant funded positions: Community Service Officer-1;
Corrections Deputy-6; Deputy Sheriff-3; Financial Assistant - 1; and Support
Specialist - 3
3.2. Approval of hiring two provisional Support Specialists for four (4) months, per
CSR 8.13 - Provisional Employees.
Cmmrs. Nault/Kendrick moved and seconded to approve hiring two provisional Support
Specialists for four months. Motion carried unanimously.
3.3. Discussion of CSR 8.5 - Status of Eligibles Not Selected for Appointment:
. When the name of an entry level eligible has been certified three times and has not
been appointed, the appointing authority may request the eligible person's name be
removed from the entry level list within five (5) working days of the last certification."
The Board discussed the rule. It was mentioned that if a candidate will not be
selected it is a false hope for that name to remain on the eligibility list. It was
recommended that when using this rule to remove an eligible from the list, the
candidate(s) should be counseled as to the reason.
3.4 In-House Testing - February 22, 2023 - Entry Level Corrections Deputy - A Physical
Ability Test (PAT) will be administered by the MCSO and if a candidate passes the

PAT, they will proceed to take the written test which is proctored at the Human
Resources Office.
4. Sheriff's Office Update
4.1. Corrections - There are two candidates that have been interviewed and are in
background.
4.2. Patrol - There are two candidates in background. One entry level and one
lateral candidate. Two deputies are in training at CJTC. One graduates in
March and one deputy waiting to get in.
4.3. Support Staff - The Financial Assistant position is filled. They are continuing
to actively seek applicants for the Support Specialist positions.
4.4. Law Enforcement Breakfast on Friday, February 24, at Little Creek Casino with
the speaker Beau Baken, North Mason Regional Fire. The Polar Plunge was
last weekend.
5. Adjourned - The meeting adjourned at 5:24 p.m.
