Retiring Sheriff's K-9 Dog Lobo RESOLUTION NO . 69 - 99 RETIREMENT OF SHERIFF ' S K=9 DOG WHEREAS , RCW 36 , 32 . 120 states that the Board of County Commissioners " . . . shall make and enforce , by appropriate resolution or ordinances , all such police and sanitary regulations as are not in conflict with state law . . . " ; WHEREAS , the Board finds that the Mason County Sheriff has a viable canine program contributing to the safety of the citizens of Mason County ; WHEREAS , the Board finds that the dogs selected for use in this program must be certified and competent to the assignment . It further finds that the K-9 dogs are subject to injury and aging during their service to the program . Further, the Board believes it is the Sheriff' s responsibility to determine when a K-9 dog is no longer suitable to the assignment ; WHEREAS , the Board finds that since the K-9 handler and his or her family establishes a bond with the K-9 dog , the most humane place to retire the dog is in the handler' s home ; WHEREAS , the Board finds that the current K-9 , Lobo , because of a vision problem is no longer able to work in theK-9 unit and should be retired . NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED , that the Board of County Commissioners authorizes the Sheriff to place the retired K-9 to the home of the dog ' s handler, Mark Merod . If for some reason the handler cannot accept the dog , the Sheriff will place the K-9 dog in an appropriate home of the Sheriff' s choosing . Approved this 7Ztlz day of July , 1999 .
