INTERIM AMENDMENT TO THE MASON COUNTY RESOURCE ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE adopting interim amendments to Mason County Resource Ordinance 77 - 93 , as
amended, under the authority of Chapters 36 . 70 and 36 . 70A RCW .
WHEREAS , Mason County has identified a need to support efforts to enhance critical habitat or
foster the recovery of listed endangered or threatened fish species ,
WHEREAS , the goals of the Growth Management Act include the preservation and enhancement of
the environment in RCW 36 . 70A. 020 ( 10 ) .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED , that the Board of Commissioners of Mason
County hereby ADOPTS an amendment to Section 7 . 01 . 130 General Exemptions of the Mason
County Resource Ordinance, #77 - 93 , as amended, to add a new subsection "T' as follows :
J . A project approved by the Board of County Commissioners to enhance critical habitat
or foster recovery of listed endangered or threatened fish species .
This ordinance shall be effective for a period of six months after adoption .
The Board adopts the attached findings of fact in support of this interim ordinance .
Pursuant to RCW 36 . 70A. 390, the Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on this action
on Tuesday, �.� 1-1L,e 1 j 2001 , at i` C�I c� rv�.

FINDINGS OF FACT
to Under consideration is a proposal to adopt interim amendments to Mason County Resource
Ordinance 77 - 93 , as amended .
2 . Mason County has identified a need to support efforts to enhance critical habitat or foster the
recovery of listed endangered or threatened fish species .
3 < The goals of the Growth Management Act including the preservation and enhancement of the
environment in RCW 36 . 70A. 020 ( 10) .
4 . Fish species represent a good and valuable asset for the county by providing employment and
recreational opportunities .
5 . There has been a marked decline in the number of certain fish species within the county which
significantly reduces employment and recreational opportunities and impacts the economic well being
of the county .
6 . Certain fish species have been listed by the U. S . Fish and Wildlife Service or the National
Marine Fisheries Service as threatened or endangered .
7 . Enhancement of critical fish species habitat or fostering recovery of listed endangered or
threatened species is in the public interest and benefits the economic well being of the county .
From the preceding findings , it is concluded that these interim provisions should be adopted .
